4 Leadership Tips for Business Owners

As a business leader, developing a strategy for interacting with your employees involves stimulating productivity and keeping morale high. You can achieve both of these goals simultaneously by presenting yourself as a positive role model. The following tips can help you improve your relationship with your employees, so you will all work well together.

Share Your Mission Statement and Goals

The leadership challenges you experience may be a result of communication unclear regarding the goals and philosophy you have for your business. If your employees don’t know your objectives, they’ll have a more challenging time helping you meet them. Take the time to define your goals clearly, so everyone will be on the same page.

Set a Good Example

When your employees see you give in to bad moods, react to others with frustration, or behave in a generally negative manner, they’re going to assume this is acceptable behavior. Before long, your business will be suffering from a toxic work environment that will impede productivity. The reverse is also true, however. If you can present yourself as enthusiastic, cheerful, and energetic, your positive demeanor will infect the rest of your staff even on your bad days.

Transparency Encourages More Participation

When you adopt a more transparent management style, your employees will develop greater interest in the company. This involves meetings and communication that lets your employees know what challenges the business may be facing and your plans for meeting those obstacles. You may even benefit from asking your employees for suggestions and solutions. By encouraging more participation, you’ll be helping your employees feel like they’re integral parts of the organization.

Recognize Accomplishments

When your team reaches a goal or performs better than expected, don’t take the credit for that yourself. Instead, recognize the hard work and dedication that your employees put into achieving that goal. Alternatively, it would be best if you were willing to take the blame for failures. When a mistake occurs, try not to shift blame to your team, because this can lead to negative feelings and low morale.

In general, taking the time to lead by example and promote open communication lines will help you lead an active and productive team. Your employees will become more efficient in meeting your goals when they understand the direction you have for the company. Driving with a positive and energetic demeanor will help you bond with your employees and create a team that works well together.

Developing a Business Plan for Your Gym

A business plan is the road map of a new or existing gym business. Here, entrepreneurs detail their objectives, including target customers, competitive advantage, equipment lease proposals, or how they will charge for the services. The entrepreneur wants a clear direction of what, when, and how to run the business. They use the following steps to come up with a concrete gym business plan.

The business plan will have the following sections.

The Executive Summary

This first part includes a quick pitch to investors summarizing the business idea. It aims to capture the fund managers’ interest or justify why the business owner thinks their concepts are viable. In turn, this section is prepared last.

The Market Research and Analysis

The market research gives insight into the viability of the business idea. It includes a SWOT analysis and a feasibility study for the proposed gym location. The entrepreneur uses the findings of the target market demographics, customer expectations, or the logistics of running the workout sessions to come up with factual objectives, marketing, and financial projections.

Products and Services

A gym entails providing coaching lessons, rent of gym equipment, or sale of workout videos. This section lists all the proposed products and services. From here, the entrepreneur can come up with a marketing plan and a financial plan.

The Management

Who will run the gym? What attributes do they have that are an asset to the business? Are there plans to form any strategic partnerships with a fitness coach, manufacturer, or sports icon? This section lays out the organizational structure.

The Marketing Plan

The marketing plan details the proposed income streams and marketing strategies to achieve them. They include offering monthly subscriptions, private coaching, and running a wellness and fitness program. The marketing plan comes up with marketing strategies that will enrich the customer experience.

The Financial Plan

The financial plan converts the ideas into cash. It includes the startup expenses budget, the sales budget, an income and expenditure statement, a balance sheet, and a cash flow statement. In turn, it gives a clearer picture of areas that do not add up, are over-ambitious, or underutilized.

Finally, entrepreneurs have to break the business plan into small achievable goals. They set a time frame to get licenses, assets, and marketing campaigns. Plus, they will have to file tax returns at the end of each financial year. Hence, keeping tabs on all the paperwork is crucial.

The Future of Entrepreneurship

Americans have always valued entrepreneurship. The classic American success story involves arriving as an immigrant, starting a business and scaling it up into something impressive. While that’s an enduring template, it’s essential to acknowledge the way entrepreneurship evolves. The economy is always changing, and the roadmap to business success changes from era to era.

For the year 2020, there are several significant trends to note when it comes to entrepreneurship. The first is the type of people who are starting new businesses. In 2020, many entrepreneurs are young. Four percent are under 30. That’s not a huge percentage, but it’s a significant number of individuals. Remarkably, so many young people are taking substantial risks early in their careers.

The second trend of note is the type of business people are starting. Instead of opening stores or becoming general contractors, most new businesses are service-related. That can mean business services, food service, or lifestyle services like coaching and personal training. The knowledge economy is becoming more important all the time. General retail and home services each account for less than 10% of the new businesses being started.

The way that entrepreneurs are going about their business has also changed. In the past, it was an advantage to be able to do more than one thing well. That was true of many retail and service-based enterprises. With the ubiquity of Amazon and Walmart, there’s no need for more entries into that market. The real way to succeed as an entrepreneur in 2020 is to niche down. By providing a particular service to a specific market, new businesses can thrive. The detail is where many people and businesses need the most help right now.

Another trend in the way new businesses are coming together in partnership. In the past, there was a big dividing line between tech and other industries, especially in the startup phase. Today, it’s common to see partnerships where one party handles the marketing and sales, and the other controls the coding and development—finding a trustworthy partner with a complementary skill set has always been a key for business success. It’s good to see effective communicators and great engineers coming together and achieving greatness.

7 Tips for Retaining Your Best Employees

A good employee is an asset to the company. Good employees can lead to an increase in sales and customer satisfaction. Retaining good employees is the key to the success of your business. The evolution of the workplace has made it hard to retain good employees. Job hopping has also made it hard for employers to keep their employees. The following are the best ways to retain your best employees.

Quality Supervision

Poor management can make you lose your best employees. Most employees leave their workplaces because of supervisors and managers more often than they would leave because of their job. Managers should provide feedback about performance. They should also clarify the expectations and potential earnings.

Create a Good Working Environment

Employees should feel included in the company. A firm that celebrates diversity in the workplace can encourage the employees to stay. Companies should develop incentives such as fitness centers to make it attractive to retain the top talent.

Provide Opportunities for Growth

Top talents want to work where they can grow and learn. Employees are likely to stagnate if they do not have new opportunities. Managers should organize workshops and seminars. Career-oriented employees must experience growth opportunities in the organization.

Appreciate the Employees

Managers should respect and recognize their employees. The common forms of appreciation entail bonuses, gifts, and monetary rewards. Commissions should also be calculated daily. This can raise motivation and help retain good employees.

Create a Work-life Balance

Companies should understand that employees have a life outside their work. You can quickly lose your top talent if you consistently ask them to work late and to come early. Technology has made it possible for employees to work remotely. Working remotely provides flexibility that employees would want.

Manage your Employees with Trust

Managers should promote open communication in the company. This helps to build trust between the employees and the management. Company leadership should also rely on transparency and relationships. Employees are likely to stay in a company when they have confidence in the management.

Hire the Right Person

The company should hire the right people for the right positions. The job descriptions should be updated periodically. Recruiters should ensure that candidates have the required skills. It is also easy to retain trained personnel.

Recover the Right Way

Recovery is a crucial part of any workout routine because your recovery plan has a significant impact on your fitness progression. Proper rest and recovery will help you reach your fitness goals. Unfortunately, many fail to follow a recovery routine and ultimately hinder their success. Here are my few tips to help get your post-workout plan on track.

Plan Recovery Time

Working out often and hard is great – but not allowing yourself to rest can cause serious problems. It’s easy to believe that fitness gurus never take a day off from strength training, but they do! “Recovery is one of the most important aspects of a successful training regimen, but for some reason, it’s commonly overlooked,” John Gallucci, Jr., D.P.T., president of JAG Physical Therapy, said. “Especially after intense or prolonged training, your body needs time to repair tissues that have broken down.” Depending on your workout regimen, be sure to have 24-72 hours of rest between intense sessions.

Hydrate and Eat Well

Another important aspect of recovery is refueling your body. Ideally, you should be replacing your fluid loss before, during, and after your workouts. Water helps every metabolic function and nutrient transfer in the body, so having plenty of water will improve every bodily function. Eating well is another key component. I recommend eating within 60 minutes of the end of your workout and make sure you include some high-quality protein and complex carbohydrate.

Sleep and Rest

While this may seem like a no-brainer, many forget that resting and sleeping is part of every effective recovery plan. Developing a regular sleep schedule is the best way to help your body recover. Try going to bed around the same time every night, even on days you are not working out.

Don’t Skip Stretching

Stretching is a significant help when recovering from a hard workout. Stretching helps relieve muscular tension and potentially downplay the soreness you experience later. “Make sure you allot at least 20 minutes after a workout to cool down and stretch,” Barbara Bolotte, an International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness model, said. “If you don’t plan for it, you are more likely to skip it.”

Schedule Recovery Workouts

My last tip for recovery is to remember that not every workout has to be a hard one. A lack of proper recovery can lead to overtraining, which can lead to fatigue, injuries, inflammation, and lack of progress. I recommend scheduling recovery and rest days. This does not mean you cannot train on those days, just take it a little lighter. Rest days can include a light job with extra stretching.

If you want to get the most from workouts, you need to prioritize a recovery routine. My five tips will help you maximize recovery and maximize your progress!

How to Start Working Out Regularly

Getting on the workout grind can be challenging and difficult. However, from boosting your energy levels and reducing stress to losing weight and improving your sleep, there are many reasons why you should incorporate working out into your life. If you have no idea where to get started, here’s my roadmap for finding a workout routine that you can stick to.

Buy Proper Gear

Having the proper gear for working out is a must. Not only will you help prevent injury, but buying new workout gear can boost your motivation! Your necessary equipment will be dependent on what type of fitness routine you follow.

Start Small

As you begin to work out, think about long-term consistency and ask yourself how many days a week can you realistically fit working out into your schedule. Your fitness goals will determine how often you need to work out. For some, this may mean three to four days a week, while others may want to work out more. Maintaining regular workouts in your schedule is the most important key – but remember, you will not see results instantly, which is the number one reason exercise routines fail more often than not. If you were to go to the gym for 9 hours straight, you will not return home to look in the mirror and see a new you. If you go to the gym every single day for 9 days, and you come home every single day and look in the mirror, you will not see a new you. If you are patient, create a moderate/doable routine, and are very consistent with it while being patient with the results over the course of 30 short days… You WILL see results.

I recommend scheduling three workouts a week to start. The most motivating and encouraging way to work out is via the newest and proven trend that has become the norm which is group fitness. Find a friend or colleague that is already in a group fitness program of some sort – this will help you become instantly comfortable and better introduced to the program versus walking in to a new class as a first-timer.

The Two Main Keys to Physical Fitness

David Jeansonne recently opened CHAMPS BOXING™️, a boxing-inspired group fitness gym, because he wanted to bring his community a revolutionized, safe way to get a great workout in a fun-for-all format. Jeansonne is dedicated to helping others achieve physical fitness success and here are his two main key components.

Motivation

Motivation is one of the two keys to physical fitness success. Without motivation, nothing would ever get done. According to Richard Price, the Regional Security Director at Blumont, Inc., motivation is an internal process that focuses a person towards goals and objectives. “In context, motivation can be said ‘the will to work,’” Price said. “Motivation can come from the enjoyment of the work itself, the desire to achieve goals and objectives, and from the sense of satisfaction that can be gained from successful completion of a task, or achieve the desired outcome to something more complex.”

Motivation stems from ambition and desire. For some, losing weight may drive their physical fitness goals. For others, it could be wanting to live a healthier lifestyle or to feel better about themselves. When it comes to reaching physical fitness goals and getting the results you desire, you need to be motivated in order to achieve the results. Before you even start working out, you need to make sure that you are self-motivated and that you have the support you need to motivate you when your motivation runs out.

One of the best reasons to workout with CHAMPS BOXING™️ is that the team is always going to help motivate you. Whether that means helping you push through the final ten minutes of a workout or offering physical fitness advice, the CHAMPS BOXING™️ team is determined to help you achieve your physical fitness goals.

Determination

That brings us to the second key to physical fitness success: determination. When it comes to physical fitness, determination is essential. For any change that comes out in your life, especially physical fitness, requires determination. You can only achieve your goals when you are entirely focused on the end result.

Achieving your physical fitness goals is not always easy, and it requires lots of motivation and determination. CHAMPS BOXING™️ is a great outlet for those in the New Orleans area to receive more motivation and determination to achieve their fitness goals. CHAMPS BOXING™️ Sponsors Local Race

This past weekend, David Jeansonne and his latest venture CHAMPS BOXING™️ sponsored the fourth annual Bursting with Speed 5k and half mile race!

The Bursting with Speed event is held in memory of Benny Burst, a faith-filled family man, and an avid runner. Burst was a native of the New Orleans area. In June 2013, Burst was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and began chemotherapy. A few months later, Burst lost his fight, and that is why the Bursting with Speed race is held to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The LLS is the largest voluntary health foundation devoted to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

The race is hosted by the New Orleans Track Club, a not-for-profit organization and a member of the Road Runners Club of America and USA Track & Field. Additionally, CHAMPS BOXING™️ and other local organizations were able to sponsor the event. Pre-registered participants were eligible to win cash prizes and gifts donated by CHAMPS BOXING™️ and other sponsors.

CHAMPS BOXING™️is proud to support its local community. To learn more about CHAMPS BOXING™️, visit their website at ChampsBoxing.com!

CHAMPS BOXING™ Featured on WDSU-TV

I recently recognized a huge opportunity in our city for a group fitness program that conforms to literally everyone.  While group fitness will always be in a multi-person setting, the concept should focus on you as an individual.  My goal is to bring the community a revolutionized, safe way to get a great workout in a fun-for-all format—without the quick burnout that a vast majority of people hit after a few short months.  Most programs boast about creating a “lifestyle”, but then promise to get you “fit fast”.  I am after something better.  Much better.

A program unlike the standard, cookie-cutter franchise facilities that ask you to comply very specifically to their regimen burning out everyone except the most experienced fitness guru long before you reach that first level of fitness goals, much the second and third phases of fitness lifestyles. So, this new group fitness boxing craze has certainly surpassed the trendy stage.  There is something that is so individualized about you and that bag that seems to separate each person from the group—giving you the ability to “Leave It All On The Bag! ™”. After researching this Boxing-Inspired Group Fitness I saw my vision in this but it needed some tweaking, when someone told me “I think a water filled punching bag would really warrant the concept to cater to virtually everyone. Well,I never thought twice, I never looked back! I soon realized and proved this product Delivers the best workout possible.  If you’ve done it, you absolutely understand …If you haven’t, you are about to find out!

As the old saying goes “Don’t Over-think it” …Says who?! I have overthought every piece of this concept to deliver the best possible brand to our members, including the latest technology-driven, revolutionized, reinvented punching bag; The Hydroblast™ bag absorbs strikes, providing a life-like feel with no recoil impact with no joint pressure, unlike the traditional six foot tall sand filled bags that are basically obsolete. Now, they will soon be! We combined that incredible technology with a carefully designed layout, the best centralized location with more than enough parking, energetic color combinations, the easiest paperless finger vein membership software…Okay, you get it.

We are a 28 Bag studio that you will see is the perfect size to get that Group Fitness feel while not feeling like you’re working out in a crowded room. We even designed a customized timer that we put our handcrafted music playlists into that fit virtually every walk of life… Hence our Mission; to cater to “Everyday People”. You won’t find heavy metal or hardcore rap music in our classes, but you will hear everything in between. I have combed this city and others for an open floor plan facility that offered what I had in mind when it came to being kid friendly, as in truly kid friendly. I could not find one. On any given day you will find multiple children 3-12 years old dancing on our Retail Therapy™️ floor dancing to Don’t stop believing by Journey while their Mom or Dad…. or BOTH are Boxing and working out to it just 5 feet from them! Nowhere in this city or others will you find a facility where couples, siblings, and full families are all working out with friends (both old and new).  Everyone leaves laughing while they are dripping with sweat! …. Enough Said.

The location is 4650 West Esplanade Avenue near Clearview in Metairie, just minutes from any part of the city while avoiding the daunting trek and traffic down Veterans Boulevard.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

3 Helpful Tips for Starting a Business

Starting a business is challenging, and no successful entrepreneur starts a company overnight. While there is no perfect formula to follow to become a prosperous business owner, there are a few beginning steps that can set you up for long-term success. Here are my three helpful tips for starting a successful business.

1. Educate Yourself

Passion drives flourishing businesses, but no company can be successful without knowledge. This is why it’s vital to educate yourself on business practices and industry knowledge. Try to absorb everything that you can. Mike Kappel, the CEO of Patriot Software, LLC, recommends listening to what others have to say, including friends, family, and experts. By talking to others, conducting research and reaching out to experts in the field, you’ll gain helpful knowledge and advice. While you are learning, be sure to keep notes and start developing your business plans. Don’t forget to conduct research on target markets, estimate profits, and find out legal requirements. The more you learn initially will help develop your business success and hopefully prevent surprises down the road.

2. You’re Going to Need More Money

Cash flow is the lifeline of all businesses and an important measure of success, and you’re going need to a lot to start a company. Conducting research will help you determine how much it will cost for you to develop your product and service and what price you need to sell at to make money. Brad Sugars, the founder and chairman of ActionCOACH, suggests overestimating expenses and underestimate revenues. “I’ve never seen a startup business where expenses were at least 30 percent more than initially planned or anticipated, and revenues are at least that much less.” Sugars writes. It also may be necessary to contact investors for business funds.

3. Take Advantage of Free Resources

As a startup, you’re going to have limited funds, so take advantage of free resources. Whether you need help creating a website, developing a logo, or making business cards, there are so many free sources that you can use. There are free resources that can help build a business profile, create a website, develop social media practices, help track productivity, and even assist with accounting and payroll needs.

Becoming a business owner, especially a successful one, takes much more than just following these three tips. However, educating yourself, managing cash flows, and using free tools are great beginning steps to take. Success does not come overnight, but these tips can help get you started.
